Norwegian company Brunvoll has been chosen to supply azimuth propulsion thrusters and thruster control systems for Norled’s four hybrid ferries.
As informed, the vessels, which were designed by Sembcorp Marine’s LMG Marin, will be built at the Tersan Havyard Shipyard.
The vessels will be able to transport 60 vehicles and 250 passengers each, including crew. Each of the ships will have a battery capacity of 8000 kWh. Brunvoll’s pulling azimuth thrusters serve simultaneously as rudders and propulsors.
The routes support traffic between Stokkvågen and Lovund, and between Stokkvågen and Træna, including some more destinations.
Norled will operate the vessels on the route from 2027, and all four vessels will be delivered from shipyard Tersan Havyard Leirvik during 2026.
To remind, Brunvoll recently signed a contract with Norwegian Myklebust Shipyard to deliver a thruster package for an energy subsea construction vessel (ESCV) it is building for REM Offshore.
Under the contract, the company will deliver a thruster package consisting of two propulsion azimuth thrusters, two retractable azimuth thrusters, and a tunnel thruster for one vessel, with an additional vessel as an option.
Earlier on, the Norwegian firm scored a deal to provide main propulsion for Orient Express Silenseas’s new wind-powered cruise vessels. Expected to be the ‘world’s largest sailing ships’, the 2+2 units were ordered in 2023.
