With the assistance of the Norwegian seismic company TGS, the Government of Liberia, through the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA), has initiated a direct negotiation licensing round featuring 29 offshore blocks in the Liberia and Harper Basins.
TGS supports this effort by providing a portfolio of multi-client subsurface data for the available blocks. The dataset includes over 24,000 kilometers of 2D seismic data, more than 26,000 square kilometers of 3D seismic data, 5,100 square kilometers of newly reprocessed 3D seismic data , and 12,000 kilometers of 2D seismic data, said TGS.
These have been enhanced using pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) technology to improve imaging of key targets in the Cretaceous reservoirs, offering updated insights into the region’s potential.
TGS said it recognizes Liberia’s “significant” offshore hydrocarbon opportunities and provides high-quality seismic data to support companies participating in the direct negotiation round. This data is important for evaluating potential within an under-explored but proven petroleum system.
According to TGS , Liberia’s offshore sector includes diverse geological plays, from the syn-rift Lower Cretaceous to the deepwater Upper Cretaceous, with multiple source rock intervals. The multi-client data offering, which includes 2D and 3D seismic, gravity, magnetic data, and well data, provides a detailed understanding of these plays, with numerous prospects and identifiable leads, said the Norwegian company.

In terms of TGS’s most recent activities in Africa, the company has signed an agreement with Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy to integrate, enhance, and license additional subsurface data. The agreement allows TGS to expand its onshore and offshore data offerings in Mauritania.
