Italian shipping company Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the fifth energy-efficient multipurpose roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship from South Korean yard HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).
The vessel Great Casablanca, which belongs to the “innovative G5 series”, features a length of 250 meters, a beam of 38 meters and a deadweight of 45,684 tonnes.
The ship is able to transport 4,700 linear meters of rolling freight, 2,500 CEUs and 2,000 TEUs.
The new series of ships features technological solutions aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The company expects that this will result in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne transported of up to 43% less compared to other Grimaldi ConRo multipurpose vessels.
Great Casablanca is intended to further enhance the quality of maritime transport services provided by the Neapolitan company between Northern Europe and West Africa, like all six sister ships in this series.

Starting from next October, Great Casablanca will be regularly operational on the Grimaldi Group’s route connecting major ports in Northern Europe and in West Africa.
To remind, in April this year, Grimaldi welcomed the fourth ship in this series, Great Abidjan. The naming and delivery ceremony for the newbuild took place at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.
In December last year, Grimaldi took delivery of the third ship from the G5 batch, Great Tema. The first and the second units were delivered earlier that year.
