Energy and marine consultancy ABL Group has joined AquaVentus, a project aiming to develop 10 GW of green hydrogen capacity from offshore wind in the North Sea by 2035.
AquaVentus initiative aims to produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen per year from wind energy in the North Sea and transport it to land by pipeline. The initiative gathers more than 100 companies, organizations, and research institutes along the entire value chain to create the framework conditions for the installation of 10GW of green hydrogen generation capacity from offshore wind energy in the North Sea across Europe and to build the necessary transport infrastructure.
ABL Group with local offices in North Sea countries including Germany, Netherlands, UK, Denmark, Norway, and France, will support the AquaVentus consortium with a range of engineering and marine consultancy services.
More specifically, the company plans to draw upon its combination of offshore engineering and hydrogen expertise to help support the consortium’s initiatives within pipeline engineering management and discipline engineering services.
ABL Group’s experience on multi-national projects including the NEOM green hydrogen project , and the design concept project for a green hydrogen production and storage barge.

For instance, ABL was recently contracted by GASCADE Gastransport GmbH to provide marine warranty survey services to oversee the construction of the 50 kilometre subsea pipeline which will in future feed green hydrogen into the German grid via the Mukran entry point,” said Sergio Leone , Project Manager for the pipeline project, ABL – an ABL Group company.
