Breeze inks deal to design battery hybrid MPSVs for Greek shipowner

Norwegian ship design company Breeze Ship Design has secured a contract for the design of two battery hybrid multipurpose offshore supply vessels (MPSVs) for Greek shipowner Capital Offshore Management.

Norwegian ship design company Breeze Ship Design has secured a contract for the design of two battery hybrid multipurpose offshore supply vessels (MPSVs) for Greek shipowner Capital Offshore Management.

As informed, the Z 4423 MPSV is an 88-meter-long vessel equipped with battery hybrid propulsion, a 1000-square-meter work deck, and accommodations for 60 people.

Its design includes a moonpool, subsea crane, and a helideck, making it a versatile asset for a variety of operations in the offshore and energy sectors, according to the firm. The vessel’s features will enable it to handle diverse tasks such as subsea work, equipment deployment, and personnel transport, enhancing its utility across different mission profiles. The two ships are scheduled to be constructed at China’s Fujian Mawei shipyard.

“We are very happy to see that our Z 4423 MPSV design is chosen again. In response to the customer’s demand for a modern, high quality, and fuel efficient MPSV, Breeze Ship Design has developed a highly energy and environmentally efficient vessel that provides a flexible operational solution,” said Tommy Hivand , CCO of Breeze Ship Design.

Last year, the Norwegian design firm acquired Varshyp Design, a Bulgarian engineering firm specialized in all fields required for ship design, marine engineering and marine consultancy. The company explained that the acquisition process started last year as a result of increased market demand for Breeze services, particularly related to zero-emission projects.

In the past, Breeze Ship Design worked on several eco-friendly ship designs, including an ammonia-powered oil tanker design for the Norway-backed Green Shipping Program (GSP). GSP is a public-private partnership that aims to advance the Norwegian government’s maritime strategies and plans. The program’s vision is to develop and strengthen Norway’s goal to establish “the world’s most efficient and environmentally friendly shipping”.
