New Norwegian partnership set up to digitalize North Sea oil & gas area

Norwegian oil and gas player Aker BP and compatriot energy data and intelligence company TGS have expanded their ongoing cooperation with a strategic partnership aimed at digitalizing the Yggdrasil area in the North Sea.

As part of the new agreement, Aker BP will integrate TGS’ Prediktor Data Gateway into the digital ecosystem for Yggdrasil as a process data server, expected to optimize work processes and enhance operational efficiency through real-time, high-quality, reliable data.

Yggdrasil , estimated at over $10.3 billion, consists of the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin license groups, and is located between Alvheim and Oseberg in the North Sea. Aker BP’s partners in the area are Equinor and PGNIG Upstream Norway.

“We are excited to deepen our relationship with Aker BP through this strategic partnership. The Prediktor Data Gateway offers unique flexibility and efficiency, representing a new frontier in field operations. We look forward to its impact on the Yggdrasil area,” said Carel Hooijkaas , EVP of New Energy Solutions at TGS.

“The partnership underscores the critical role of digital innovation in optimizing asset operations. With the Prediktor Data Gateway, Aker BP can achieve greater control, leveraging real-time data from OT systems through an OPC-UA standard information model for improved decision-making.”

This agreement follows a number of other news from TGS earlier this month. Namely, the Norwegian company on September 23 announced the launch of the Gulf Coast CO2 Storage Assessment package to optimize sequestration strategies, spanning 70 million acres across the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast

At the beginning of the month, TGS began the acquisition of a 2D seismic survey in the Sumatra basin in Indonesia. The survey, conducted using COSL’s HYSY 718 vessel, is expected to comprise between 5,500- and 6,500-line kilometers, covering two regions. Earlier this year, TGS completed a multi-client 2D reprocessing project in the same basin which aims to integrate key discoveries with available open acreage.

The seismic acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of Q4 2024.

Kristian Johansen , CEO at TGS, said: “North Sumatra has been the site of major discoveries in the past few years. With this being our sixth consecutive acquisition project offshore Indonesia, TGS remains dedicated to advancing exploration in the region. Our high-quality seismic data continues to shed light on crucial play concepts, extending exploration potential into open acreage and unlocking exciting opportunities within the Sumatra basin.”

TGS also recently completed the acquisition of an ultra-high-resolution 3D (UHRD3D) survey on behalf of Community Offshore Wind in the New York Bight, providing soil condition data to guide the design of the offshore wind project.
