Worley has entered into an agreement with Liquid Wind to provide preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) for Uniper’s NorthStarH2 e‑methanol facility in Östersund, Sweden.
The facility, which is being developed by Liquid Wind on behalf of Uniper, aims to produce over 100,000 tons of e-methanol annually to help decarbonize shipping and chemical industries.
Worley said that its focus during the pre-FEED will be on the balance of the plant, which encompasses all supporting systems and infrastructure necessary for the facility’s operation.
Work will be led by the company’s Nordic team located at the Gothenburg and Copenhagen offices, supported by its global hydrogen experts and Global Integrated Delivery team in India.

To remind, Uniper selected Liquid Wind to develop its sustainable e-fuel project NorthStarH2 in August 2024. At the time, Claes Fredriksson, CEO and Founder of Liquid Wind, noted that e-fuel would play a “crucial role in electrifying numerous sectors such as shipping, aviation and chemical industries.”
Earlier in 2024, Uniper signed an agreement with Jämtkraft to secure access to land and electricity grid connection for the project.
