Norwegian marine geoscience and technology company Shearwater GeoServices is set to carry out an ocean bottom node (OBN) survey in Angola for French energy giant TotalEnergies at the beginning of 2025.
The deepwater OBN survey will be performed by the dual ROV-equipped SW Tasman, the fit-for-purpose seismic node laying vessel which was converted in 2023, and SW Gallien as a source vessel.
Work will take place in Block 32 over the Louro and Mostarda fields where Shearwater previously completed a 4D streamer survey for TotalEnergies.
Located approximately 260 kilometers off the coast of Luanda, in water depths ranging from 1,400 to 2,000 meters, Block 32 came online in 2018. The asset is said to be one of the biggest producing blocks in Angola.
The survey will begin in January 2025 and will take two and a half months, with the high-endurance Pearl node utilized for the project.

For 2025, Shearwater is set to carry out a two-month 4D seismic monitoring project in Ghana , at the Jubilee field, operated by Tullow Ghana Ltd.
The company also recently secured a contract extension for a “major” deepwater OBN survey off the coast of India, after having revealed its intention to upgrade the main engines on one of its seismographic research ships to achieve more sustainable and efficient operations.
