Seaway7 has finished the full engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC) work for the cables at the 882 MW Moray West offshore wind farm in Scotland.

Seaway7 has installed 118 kilometers of 66 kV inter-array cables, linking the wind farm’s 60 turbines to two offshore substations , along with an additional 15 kilometers of 66 kV cables connecting the two substations.

The cables were supplied by JDR Cable Systems, and Seaway Aimery carried out the installation.

Seaway7 and JDR Cable Systems won contracts to supply and install the inter-array cables for the Moray West offshore wind farm in November 2022.

The 882 MW project, developed by Ocean Winds, is located in the Moray Firth, approximately 22.5 kilometers from the Caithness coastline.

Moray West had already delivered its first power from Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-222 DD wind turbines, and the electricity was exported to Scotland’s National Electricity Transmission System (NETS).

The offshore wind farm is nearing the end of the construction phase and is planned to become fully operational next year.

Moray West, part of Ocean Winds’ 6 GW portfolio of secured offshore wind farms in the UK, is expected to inject over £800 million into the local Scottish economy throughout its lifespan, and during the construction phase, it will create more than 1,500 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) years in Scotland.
