Four 2027-bound LNG carriers to feature tanks designed by France’s GTT

France’s technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has received respective orders from Korean and Chinese shipyards for tank designs for a total of four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

In the third quarter of this year, GTT secured an order from its partner Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries for the tank design of two new liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs), on behalf of an undisclosed Asian shipowner.

The two vessels each offer a total capacity of 174,000 m3 and are scheduled for delivery between the first and second quarters of 2027.

GTT was also recently hired by Samsung Heavy Industries for four LNGCs that are expected to be delivered between Q2 and Q3 2028.

In a separate announcement, GTT revealed it had also received an order from Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) for the tank design of two new LNGCs, on behalf of Chinese shipowner COSCO Shipping .

The order, also received in Q3 2024, will see GTT design the tanks of the two vessels with respective total capacities of 175,000 m3, with vessel delivery expected in the third quarter of 2027.

All four LNG carriers will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system for which the French firm this month received approvals in principle (AiPs) by classification societies ABS, Bureau Veritas (BV) and Lloyd’s Register (LR).

In terms of other recent news coming from the company, GTT last moth secured an order from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Samho, a subsidiary of shipbuilding giant HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), for the tank design of four new LNGCs , on behalf of an undisclosed European ship owner.
