Norwegian offshore vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore has won a contract extension for one of its platform supply vessels (PSVs), prolonging the vessel’s stay offshore Norway.
The contract extension for the PSV Viking Princess will start from January 2025, in direct continuation of the current contract, extending the firm period to January 2026.
This extension was obtained thanks to the current charterer’s decision to declare remaining options and expand the existing contract, agreed in October 2020 when the vessel was hired by Wintershall Dea Norge , which is now part of Harbour Energy .
The first extension option was used in October 2021 to prolong the vessel’s stay for a year. Come October 2022, another option was exercised to prolong the PSV’s assignment, which was followed by two more in March and October last year to allow the deal to last until October 2025.
The 2013-built PSV Viking Princess , constructed at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, is of a VS489 PSV LNG design. According to Eidesvik, this PSV was the world’s first offshore vessel with a battery hybrid energy storage solution replacing a traditional generator. It was also equipped with a shore power system in November 2021.
The Norwegian offshore vessel owner is working on adding new ships to its fleet. To this end, the firm and its partner, Agalas, recently started to build a methanol-powered hybrid construction support vessel (CSV) for offshore wind and subsea operations.
