Saab UK has completed inshore water testing for its Seaeye SR20 eWROV, marking what it says is a significant milestone in the development of the fully electric, work-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

According to Saab, the testing phase assessed the ROV’s precise maneuverability and dexterity under both manual joystick control and automated modes, setting the stage for more extensive sea trials in spring 2025.
“The SR20 going to water trials is a huge milestone in Saab UK’s journey to take electric ROV capabilities to the next level, focusing on eco-responsibility and greater efficiency. Saab UK describes the SR20 as a highly capable, environmentally-conscious ROV engineered for operational concepts such as resident deployment and over-the-horizon control. As a fully electric vehicle, the SR20 limits oil usage, reducing its environmental impact. Equipped with advanced thrust capabilities and electric manipulators, it also boasts efficiency gains over traditional hydraulic systems.
Ocean Infinity, the SR20’s launch customer, aims to use the vehicle within its fleet of uncrewed robotic vessels, advancing remote maritime operations with Saab’s electric technology.
In recent Saab UK news, Aberdeen-based Underwater Contracting (UCO), owner of the largest fleet of Saab’s Seaeye Falcon ROVs, purchased five new units in March, bringing its total to 38 Falcon systems.
