Spanish gas company Saggas and Valenciaport have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on innovation and development projects linked to renewable gases and CO2.
This memorandum of understanding formalizes the collaboration between Saggas and the Port Authority of València (PAV).
Specifically, they will work together to identify innovation projects focused on storage, generation, and logistics for renewable gases (hydrogen, bioLNG, etc.) and CO2. The aim is to leverage synergies with operations at the Sagunto regasification plant.
The partners also want to meet the decarbonization needs of the maritime – port sector, the logistics chain and its hinterland. They also want to support compliance with the requirements of the European Green Pact and specific regulations such as the Fuel Maritime initiative and the regulation on the infrastructures needed for alternative fuels (AFIR), among others.
The signing of this memorandum is part of Saggas’ interest in participating in projects in the renewable gas and CO2 infrastructure sector, as well as in the energy transition plan promoted by the PAV.
The Port of València is particularly committed to the 2030 Agenda, with projects including the H2PORTS initiative to establish the use of green hydrogen in its operations , the installation of an electrical substation to connect the ships’ engines to shore power while they are docked at the Port of Valencia or the installation of wind turbines to generate wind energy.
Last year, the PAV revealed that 42 private companies have voluntarily aligned themselves with the environmental strategy “Valenciaport 2030 Zero Emissions”. The port also tested an electrically powered airship with sensors and instruments to analyze environmental, security and maritime traffic control parameters.
