Norway’s Myklebust Shipyard has awarded compatriot Brunvoll with another contract for a thruster package, destined for an inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) vessel it is building for REM Offshore.
This confirms the option for an additional vessel for REM Offshore, originally announced in May this year . Like the previous contract, this agreement also includes an option for a third additional vessel.
Brunvoll’s thruster package consists of two propulsion azimuth thrusters, two retractable azimuth thrusters, and a tunnel thruster, the same as the previous vessel, except that the new vessel with be equipped with a slightly larger tunnel thruster.
The thruster package also features Brunvoll’s Condition Monitoring system, BruCon CMS, for enhanced operational efficiency and decision support.
REM Ocean will have dual-fuel engines capable of running on bio-methanol and biodiesel, along with a battery energy storage system and regenerative energy systems. Also designed by Skipsteknisk, it shares the same platform as the previous unit, which is an energy subsea construction vessel (ESCV).
“We have implemented several measures to enhance the energy efficiency of these vessels,” said Kristian Stavset , Head of Projects at REM Offshore AS. “For propulsion, we selected two retractable azimuth thrusters to improve station-keeping efficiency. Additionally, we installed a larger tunnel thruster specifically for this vessel to reduce noise and vibration, ensuring greater comfort and welfare for the crew onboard.”
Once commissioned, the vessel will begin operating on a long-term contract with DeepOcean, providing subsea IMR services for Equinor.
