Oslo Stock Exchange-listed semi-submersible accommodation vessel owner and operator Prosafe has won a multimillion-dollar contract extension for one of its semi-submersible vessels, which is providing safety and maintenance support to Petrobras, a Brazilian state-owned energy giant.
After Prosafe’s bid got selected as the winning one in a bidding process launched by Petrobras, the firm got a contract in Brazil with a firm period commitment of 650 days, valued at approximately $73 million, or equivalent to $112,500 per day, as disclosed in December 2022.
Thanks to this, the Safe Zephyrus semi-submersible unit was scheduled to start mobilization to Brazil upon the conclusion of its contract with BP in the North Sea. The vessel for safety and maintenance support embarked on its 650-day assignment with Petrobras at the end of April 2023.
Prosafe has now secured a 954-day contract extension with the Brazilian state-owned energy giant for the provision of the Safe Zephyrus semi-submersible vessel for safety and maintenance support off the coast of Brazil.
Terje Askvig , CEO of Prosafe, commented: “The Safe Zephyrus has been performing extremely well for Petrobras, serving its role supporting safety and maintenance within the important Buzios business unit offshore Brazil. This significant extension emphasises the continued and increasing demand for high specification units in the region where Prosafe is well placed to increase its market share.”
The extension enables the vessel to remain at work up to September 2027, with an increase in the fuel allowance from 20 cubic meters to 25 cubic meters per day through the extension period, which comes with a total value of approximately $109.7 million.
The 2016-built Safe Zephyrus , a sister vessel to the Safe Boreas , was constructed at Jurong Shipyard, Singapore, featuring the GVA 3000E design. The unit is equipped with a DP3 system and a 12-point wire mooring arrangement. This vessel has a large open deck area of over 1,000 squire meters and two 50-tonne cranes.
A few months ago, Safe Caledonia and Safe Boreas were gearing up to start their new jobs. The former is scheduled to start work on the Captain field in the UK sector of the North Sea for Ithaca Energy in June 2025. On the other hand, Safe Boreas will be mobilized from the North Sea in Q2 2025 to Australia.
