Canada’s oil and gas player Trillion Energy is preparing to boost gas production at its field offshore Türkiye using nitrogen after wrapping up velocity string (VS) operations.

The Canadian firm has officially finished VS operations on the Alapli-2 and Bayhanli-2 gas wells at the SASB field, bringing the total to six wells completed as part of its VS program, which started in late October at the Akçakoca-3 gas well.

After installing 2,996 meters of 2 3/8-inch velocity string tubing to Alapli-2, the snubbing unit used for the job was set to be transferred to Bayhanli-2, where 2,888 meters of 2 3/8-inch velocity string tubing were to be installed. The unit was mobilized and the crane barge anchored at the East Ayazli tripod on January 7.

The next day, the crew was rigging the snubbing unit onto the Bayhanli-2 well.

The second well was completed on January 10, eight days after the Canadian player disclosed the start of work on two tripods . With the well pair completed, nitrogen stimulation aiming to boost gas production and kickstart the wells is next on the Canadian player’s agenda.

On January 13, the firm shared that the nitrogen stimulation for Bayhanli-2 and Alapli-2 was postponed due to severe weather conditions. The operations were scheduled to resume on January 16.

“Nitrogen is a highly effective tool for lifting liquids, reducing wellbore pressure, and enhancing gas flow, ensuring each well achieves its maximum production potential,” noted Trillion.

In addition to operations to boost output from its Black Sea field, the company recently went through a change in management when Sean Stofer was named Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as his predecessor Arthur Halleran decided to step down.
