French technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Offshore Engineering & Technology to optimize solutions for floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) and floating storage and regasification units (FSRU).

Under the agreement signed on January 16, 2025, in Shanghai, the duo intends to collaborate to explore the application of GTT’s membrane technologies, develop innovative solutions, and provide value-added services through digital tools.

Adnan Ezzarhouni , General Manager of GTT China, noted: “This strategic agreement reflects our shared commitment to driving innovation and delivering advanced solutions in the FLNG and FSRU sectors. By combining GTT’s expertise in membrane technologies with China Offshore’s operational excellence, we aim to shape the future of energy infrastructure and meet the evolving needs of the industry.”

The partnership follows a joint development project completed in 2024. Described as successful by the French firm, the project is said to have formed the basis for future collaboration.

“Our team will benefit from GTT’s expertise to improve the performance of our designed FLNG and FSRU. Both China Offshore and GTT should leverage their respective strengths to work together to create products and services that maximize the benefits for our common customers,” said Yao Jun , Vice President of China Offshore Engineering & Technology.

With this strategic cooperation agreement, GTT and China Offshore expect to strengthen their positions in what they see as a critical sector for the global energy transition.

Last week, GTT inked a deal with another Chinese player. The French firm was hired by Hudong-Zhonghua, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), to design tanks for six new very large liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs). The Chinese firm previously hired GTT to design the tanks of 10 LNGCs in June 2024 .
