U.S.-headquartered offshore engineering and construction player McDermott has completed offshore installation and commissioning activities for a project offshore East Malaysia ahead of schedule. The contract, awarded by PTTEP Sabah Oil (PTTEP) in early 2024, involved deepwater work at approximately 1,400 meters.
According to McDermott, the scope of work for the Kikeh subsea gas lift project included replacing an existing gas lift riser, installing a new dynamic riser section, flowline, and two thermoplastic composite pipe jumpers. Work was carried out on an accelerated schedule, with the offshore phase completed in under eight months.
“Completing the project ahead of schedule stands as testament to McDermott’s capabilities in delivering safe and efficient solutions for deepwater field development projects,” said Mahesh Swaminathan , McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Subsea and Floating Facilities.

Kikeh, launched in 2009, is one of Malaysia’s largest deepwater developments. It is located about 120 kilometers northwest of Labuan Island, offshore Sabah.
McDermott ’s work on the field focused on maintaining gas delivery to the subsea production system connected to the Kikeh floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
In other company news, McDermott recently completed the sale of its storage business to a financial investor consortium led by Mason Capital Management. This transaction enables CB&I to move forward as an independent entity with no funded debt.
