Maritime classification society Lloyd’s Register has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to Brazilian company TideWise for a 24-meter uncrewed surface vessel (USV) capable of performing offshore subsea inspection operations at depths of up to 2,500 meters.

According to Lloyd’s Register, the AiP confirms the vessel’s structural integrity, stability, and compliance with control system standards.

The multipurpose USV has an endurance of 35 days, DP2 capability, and can deploy a work-class electric remotely operated vehicle (ROV) at depths of up to 2,500 meters.

The vessel is powered by a hybrid diesel-electric system with the potential for future migration to hydrogen, Lloyd’s Register said, adding that it was built to withstand harsh maritime conditions and incorporates innovative advancements in autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and collision avoidance.

Rafael Coelho , TideWise CEO, said: “This approval in principle from LR marks an important milestone for TideWise. Our innovative USV eliminates factors such as human error, which will help to ensure more reliable and secure operations, making it an essential solution for challenging environments in the maritime and offshore sectors.”
