TGS expands 3D seismic coverage in Norwegian Barents Sea

Norway-based energy data and intelligence company TGS is set to kick off a new multi-client 3D seismic acquisition and processing project in the Goliat area of the Norwegian Barents Sea. Norway-based energy data and intelligence company TGS is set to kick off a new multi-client 3D seismic acquisition and processing project in the Goliat area of the Norwegian Barents Sea.

According to TGS, the upcoming GeoStreamer survey will cover up to 1,600 square kilometers over key discoveries, including Countach, Elgol, and Lupa, further strengthening the company’s data coverage in the Hammerfest Basin.

The Hammerfest Basin 3D survey, which will use TGS’s multi-client model, will begin in early August. The company confirmed that the project has secured industry funding.

“The Goliat area is one of the hot spots in the Norwegian Barents Sea with significant drilling success and exciting new discoveries,” said Kristian Johansen , CEO of TGS.

“We are very pleased to secure funding for more multi-client 3D acquisition in this part of the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the 2025 summer season.”

The dual-sensor GeoStreamer enables towing at any depth without compromising low- or high frequencies, as experienced by conventional streamer technology. As the GeoStreamer is towed between 15 and 25 meters in depth, an increase in operational efficiency with a strong reduction in surface-induced noise adds to its unique advantages.

Just recently, TGS secured two 4D streamer contracts in Norway, one to be performed in the North Sea and one in the Norwegian Sea.
