China-based provider of clean energy services Wison New Energies (WNE) has held the keel laying ceremony for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit set to be deployed at a project Malaysia’s investment holding and management player Genting is developing offshore Indonesia.
According to WNE, the event held at its Nantong Yard marks the official entry of what is said to be Indonesia’s first FLNG facility into its core construction phase. Destined for the Genting FLNG project in West Papua, Indonesia, the unit will liquefy natural gas produced from the Kasuri block’s concession area.
The FLNG facility with a total length of around 278.8 meters, a width of 60 meters, and an operational water depth of 32.8 meters features WNE’s standardized design. With a production capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mtpa), it is expected to help Indonesia progress its green transformation agenda.
The keel-laying ceremony was attended by Genting’s Chairman and Chief Executive Lim Kok Thay and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director Kong Han , WNE’s Chairman Liu Hongjun and CEO Cheng Yuanyun , as well as Operations Director of Bureau Veritas M&O China, Yi Gaojie , among others.
The two Chairmen jointly installed the steel plate on the keel and offered their best wishes for the FLNG project.
In June 2024, WNE and Gentig’s two subsidiaries, Genting Oil & Gas and PT Layar Nusantara Gas, signed an engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Genting FLNG project.
As stated by WNE, 90% of the ship models are currently undergoing assessment, while the main hull detailing and topside process system design are in the final stages of completion.
In mid-December 2024, the China-based player signed a front-end engineering and design (FEED) agreement with Ace Gas and FLNG for a proposed project comprising an FLNG unit and a power barge off the coast of Nigeria.
Additionally, its standardized floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit received approval in principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas (BV).
