Indian energy company ACME Cleantech has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the long-term supply of green ammonia from India to Japan.
The agreement was reportedly finalized during the official visit of India’s Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to Japan and was signed in the presence of both nations’ PMs.
According to ACME, the collaboration aligns with the company’s vision for a decarbonized world, strengthens the strategic relationship between India and Japan, and reinforces India’s commitment to its climate goals.
“By supplying green ammonia, a key molecule in the future of sustainable energy, India is poised to become a global hub for green energy production. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support from both the Government of India and the Government of Japan in making this pioneering initiative a reality,” the company stated.
In other news, it is important to note that in early 2025, a group of six Japanese companies inked an MoU to investigate investment options in a green ammonia production currently under development in India and work towards Japan’s first import of green ammonia.
Namely, IHI Corporation, Hokkaido Electric Power, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Mizuho Bank, and Tokyo Century Corporation agreed to explore investment opportunities in a new green ammonia production facility to be established in Odisha, eastern India, by 2030 in collaboration with ACME.
As disclosed, the facility has a planned annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 tons of green ammonia, which would be transported to Japan and utilized by domestic users, including power generation and chemical companies.
