In the aftermath of a court decision related to its carbon neutrality ambition, France’s energy giant TotalEnergies has shed light on its multi-energy strategy investments, highlighting its low-carbon inroads backed by a €20 billion injection over the past five years.
While taking note of the decision made by the Paris Judicial Court, which requested the removal of three paragraphs related to the carbon neutrality aspiration from its French subsidiary’s customer website, TotalEnergies explained that the requests concerning the communication campaign regarding its name change in 2021, as well as those aimed at its institutional communication on the role of natural gas and biofuels in the energy transition, have all been rejected.
The energy giant, which emphasizes that this means no ‘advertising’ of the firm’s subsidiaries in France was condemned by the court, underscored: “In view of this judgment, which in fact criticises the three paragraphs in question for not having specified the scenario on which TotalEnergies’ multi-energy (oil, gas, electricity) transition strategy is based, the companies TotalEnergies SE and TotalEnergies Electricité and Gaz France have decided not to appeal.”

As a result, the company intends to replace the three paragraphs in question with what it deems to be a factual description of what it has achieved to date in the implementation of its multi-energy strategy to dispel any doubt among its customers.
The French giant has been providing the nation with energy for over 100 years, producing oil and gas and becoming the world’s third largest player in liquefied natural gas (LNG).

TotalEnergies has provided insight into the steps it has taken toward the energy transition and new energies by investing more than €20 billion in low-carbon energies worldwide since 2020 , including €4 billion in France alone for the energy transition of its sites and that of its customers.
The company underlined: “TotalEnergies is proud to point out that starting from almost zero in 2020, it will already produce 50 TWh of electricity in 2025 worldwide, thanks in particular to its 32 GW of gross installed renewable energy capacity, the equivalent of the capacity of fifteen nuclear reactors.
“In France, TotalEnergies is proud to have been chosen to build the largest renewable energy project ever developed in the country. This offshore wind project will supply more than one million homes with green electricity and will represent a total investment of around €4.5 billion, the largest made by TotalEnergies in France in 30 years.”

TotalEnergies concluded: “With all due respect to all those who want to continue to accuse us of ‘ greenwashing’ despite all that we have already accomplished for the energy transition in France and around the world, we are proud to put all our energies at the service of our customers’ daily lives, to contribute to global energy security, and to participate in the construction of the energy system of tomorrow.”
The French player claims to have exceeded 2 GW of installed renewable capacity in France, thanks to 430 wind and solar production sites, and to distribute electricity and gas to 4.2 million residential and business customers.
The firm elaborates that it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its oil and gas facilities worldwide by 36% between 2015 and 2024 and methane emissions by 55% between 2020 and 2024.
