France-based geophysical services company Viridien, formerly known as CGG, has scored a new integrated multi-client data project off the coast of Malta with the country’s government.

Thanks to this agreement, the French player will invest in an integrated multi-client dataset for Malta’s offshore area, revitalizing existing seismic and well data to advance the understanding and promotion of the country’s offshore petroleum potential in the Central Mediterranean.

This initiative is said to mark a strategic expansion of the company’s Earth Data offering in the Mediterranean, one of the world’s most active offshore exploration frontiers. Viridien intends to deploy its high-end imaging technologies and advanced workflows to significantly optimize data quality and subsurface insight.

A regional geological study, based on this integrated dataset, is expected to provide a much clearer view of the petroleum systems and prospectivity of offshore acreage, supporting future licensing activity and more informed investment decisions.

Dechun Lin , Head of Earth Data at Viridien, commented: “This agreement underscores our strategy of investing in high-impact, partnered projects that drive new exploration and future energy supply.

“Malta’s favourable geology and strategic location offer an exciting opportunity for E&P companies looking to capture emerging oil and gas potential in the Mediterranean.”

The latest deal comes weeks after Viridien won a multi-client seismic reimaging program over an Angolan offshore block.
