Norwegian oil and gas operator Aker BP has received the green light to use one of Floatel’s semi-submersible support vessels at a field off the coast of Norway.

The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) has granted Aker BP consent to use Floatel Superior as living quarters on the Skarv field . This comes shortly after the Norwegian firm obtained the go-ahead to deploy Floatel Endurance as living quarters on the same field in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea, 35 kilometers southwest of the Norne field.

After being discovered in 1998, the plan for development and operation (PDO) of the field was approved in 2007. The development concept entails a production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) with five subsea templates with fifteen wells.

The production from the field started in 2013. The 2010-built Floatel Superior is a dynamically positioned (DP-3) semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel constructed at the Keppel FELS yard in Singapore.

This vessel, which can accommodate 440 people, received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in 2011. Aker BP previously also hired Floatel Superior for work at the Åsgard B platform in 2024.
