Azule Energy, a joint venture between two energy majors, Italy’s Eni and the UK’s BP, has reached full field start-up off the coast of Angola by bringing online three oil production wells.
The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Azule Energy confirmed the Ndungu full field start-up on February 18, 2026, with oil flowing from three production wells.
This achievement is seen as another significant milestone within the broader Agogo Integrated West Hub (IWH) project, reinforcing the company’s strategy to maximize the recovery from the fields of the western area of the Block 15/06.
The Agogo IWH project is operated by Azule Energy with a 36.84% stake alongside partners: Sonangol E&P (36.84%) and Sinopec International (26.32%). This project is set to add substantial production to Angola’s energy landscape.
Paulino Jerónimo , Chairman of ANPG’s Board of Directors, commented: “This new achievement of Agogo Integrated West Hub project further strengthens our firm belief that we are making the right investment in the development and valorization of Angola’s natural resources.
“It also reaffirms our commitment to continue the cooperation with operators to exploit any production opportunity and to support the growth and empowerment of national human capital.”
Located approximately 10 kilometers from the FPSO Ngoma in a water depth of around 1,100 meters, the Ndungu full field comprises seven production wells and four injection wells, with an expected production peak of 60,000 barrels of oil per day.
This start-up is considered to be the result of a coordinated effort among all involved parties enabling the parallel execution of activities across reservoir, drilling, project and operation departments.
The initial production will be processed via a tie-back to the existing West Hub subsea network and the FPSO Ngoma, enabling early production from Ndungu ahead of its future transition to the FPSO Agogo .

The achievement of the Ndungu full field production, just six months after the first oil was confirmed from the FPSO Agogo, is perceived to not only underscore the project’s operational excellence but also establish a new gold standard in delivering deepwater oil and gas projects at record speed, whilst maintaining constant focus on safety.
Joseph Murphy , CEO of Azule Energy, outlined: “With Ndungu full field now brought online, the Agogo Integrated West Hub continues ramping toward its full production potential.
“Together, Agogo and Ndungu expect to reach a peak output of approximately 175,000 barrels per day across the two fields, demonstrating Azule Energy’s firm commitment to contribute to Angola’s energy future.”
