Jan De Nul has contracted CRP Subsea to supply protection systems for inter-array cables at Vattenfall’s Nordlicht I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

CRP Subsea will deliver 141 NjordGuard cable protection systems (CPS), with three NjordGuard CPS designs to be engineered to meet the specific installation requirements for both monopile and J-tube interfaces at the 980 MW offshore wind farm.

The company, which will produce the NjordGuard systems at its facility in the North West of England, has already started the engineering work for the project, with CPS delivery scheduled for December 2026.

Vattenfall made the final investment decision (FID) for the Nordlicht I project in 2025 and for the second Nordlicht phase, Nordlicht II, at the beginning of this year.

The developer has contracted Jan De Nul to install the inter-array cables, which will be supplied by TKF to connect the 68 Vestas V236-15.0 MW wind turbines at Nordlicht I to the offshore substation.

Nordlicht I will link to TenneT’s BorWin kappa platform, part of the BorWin6 offshore grid connection.

Offshore construction of Nordlicht I is scheduled to begin in 2026 and Nordlicht II one year later, with the wind farms due to go into operation in 2028.

Once built, the 980 MW Nordlicht I will become Germany’s largest offshore wind farm, and with a total capacity of 1.6 GW, the Nordlicht project will become the world’s second largest offshore wind farm, according to Vattenfall.
