Norway’s state-owned energy firm Equinor and its partners have drilled a dry well off Norway in the North Sea, in a production license awarded in August 1985.

Following the drilling permit awarded in January , the wildcat well 34/8-A-37 H was drilled in production licence 120, 140 kilometers west of Florø and 4 kilometers east of the Visund A platform, in the Skoll and Hati prospects, east of the Visund field.

Drilled from Visund A, this exploration well is number 29 in the production license, held by Equinor as the operator, Repsol, ConocoPhillips and Petoro.

According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD), there were hydrocarbon shows in the Lunde Formation, but the well is classified as dry.

“The well encountered the Statfjord Group with around 112 metres, a total of 53 metres of which with good reservoir quality. The sandstone layers in the Statfjord Group were aquiferous with hydrocarbon shows. The well also encountered the Lunde Formation totalling 150 metres, 50 metres of which were sandstone layers with moderate to good reservoir quality,” NOD reported.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,081 meters and a measured depth of 6,662 meters below sea level, and has been permanently plugged and abandoned.
