Oslo Stock Exchange-listed semi-submersible accommodation vessel owner and operator Prosafe has signed on the dotted line with North Sea-focused Ithaca Energy to deploy one of its flotels on an assignment on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

Following a letter of award (LoI) in December 2025, Prosafe has confirmed the signing of a contract with Ithaca Energy, enabling the Safe Caledonia vessel to provide accommodation support at the Captain field in the UK sector of the North Sea for a firm period of six months, starting in Q2 2027, with up to three months of options.

The total value of the contract is approximately $30 million to $44 million, depending on options. The vessel has a history of working with the North Sea operator in UK waters.

Reese McNeel , CEO of Prosafe, commented: “It is a great pleasure to continue our strong relationship with Ithaca by chartering the Safe Caledonia in 2027 to support the important work at the Captain facility. We are confident that both vessel and crew will once again deliver class leading gangway connection throughout the contract.”

Discovered in 1977, the Captain field is located in Block 13/22a on the edge of the outer Moray Firth. The billion-barrel field began production in March 1997, thanks to technological developments in horizontal drilling and down-hole pump technology.

Ithaca’s enhanced oil recovery (EOR) Phase I project was bolstered by the Captain EOR Phase II project, as the next phase of development at the field, which is designed to increase hydrocarbon recovery.

This is accomplished by injecting polymerized water into the reservoir through additional subsea wells, subsea infrastructure, and new topside facilities.
