Japan’s MODEC has confirmed the arrival of a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel at a ship recycling facility in Denmark, following the completion of the unit’s work at an oil field off the coast of Brazil.
The FPSO Cidade de Niterói MV18 , owned and operated by the MODEC Group, has arrived at Modern American Recycling Services Europe ‘s ship recycling facility in Frederikshavn, Denmark, after it departed from Brazil upon completion of the required demobilization activities at the Marlim Leste oil field in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil on May 8, 2026.
The Japanese giant was in charge of executing engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) on a turnkey basis for the FPSO, which was contracted by Petrobras for the Marlim Leste development.
Since first oil in February 2009, MODEC subsequently provided charter and operations and maintenance (O&M) services for about 17 years, processing approximately 159 million barrels of oil. The FPSO completed the charter contract in May 2026.
This FPSO is planned to undergo ship recycling at a facility in Denmark in accordance with applicable regulations, including the EU Ship Recycling Regulation and the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.
The vessel was capable of processing 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 124 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, and had storage capacity of 1,600,000 barrels of crude oil.
MODEC is set on curbing emissions from its operations as illustrated by its collaboration with Eld Energy to develop a 1.2 MW power system integrated with carbon capture for application on FPSOs.
