JDR Cable Systems has delivered an electrical umbilical for installation at a gas field located off the northwest coast of Ireland, in waters 350 meters deep.
JDR’s Littleport team was in charge of the design, manufacture and supply of the electrical umbilical for the Corrib gas field, located approximately 83 kilometers off the Irish northwest coast.
The umbilical comprises six 10 mm2 paired cables and was engineered to meet the project’s specific technical requirements, the company said, adding that as it is terminated with umbilical termination Assemblies (UTAs) at both ends, it enables seamless integration with the existing offshore infrastructure.
Corrib was discovered in 1996, with production commencing on December 30, 2015. It constitutes 100% of Ireland’s natural gas production. Gas is transported to the Bellanaboy Bridge gas plant through 90 kilometers of pipeline, where it is then processed before being delivered to the national grid.
Canadian oil & gas producer Vermilion Energy holds a 56.5% operated interest in the natural gas field, while Ireland’s Nephin Energy holds 43.5%.
