WATCH: Floating solar platform installed in Valencia

Spain’s BlueNewables has installed its Paiporta floating solar platform at the Port of Valencia, marking the first major offshore operation of the RENMARINAS project.

BlueNewables led the entire engineering scope and EPCI management, including conceptual, basic and detailed engineering; procurement, supply and certification; fabrication and integration; logistics and marine transportation; mooring installation, towing, hook-up and offshore installation; and suppliers, contractors and technical interfaces.

The offshore installation of the PV-bos unit follows years of technological development, engineering and integrated management, the company reported.

“Our role has gone far beyond technology development. BlueNewables acted as the overall project integrator, turning a proprietary concept into a real offshore installation,” BlueNewables reported. “Paiporta platform demonstrates our capacity to manage complete offshore projects, integrate multiple disciplines and take a solution from engineering through to execution at sea.”

BlueNewables’ PV-bos technology combines bifacial solar panels with modular floating platforms and containerized inverters. According to the company, the system uses seawater as a natural refrigerant to improve energy efficiency.

The firm noted it would now be moving on to the second platform, Catarroja.
