Ukraine’s state-owned energy company Naftogaz Group and Poland’s Orlen have strengthened cooperation in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum product supplies, diversification of supply routes, and further stabilization of energy supplies to boost energy resilience in Ukraine and Central and Eastern Europe.
The two companies have signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to develop cooperation in LNG and petroleum product supplies, diversify supply routes, and support stability of energy supplies in Ukraine and the wider region.
The first MoU enables the duo to explore the potential supply of three LNG cargoes in the first quarter of 2027. Orlen explained these additional volumes would be part of its efforts to further develop its LNG trading activities and strengthen its role as a reliable supplier in regional markets.
Ireneusz Fąfara , Orlen’s CEO and President of the Management Board, commented: “Cooperation with Ukraine is an important part of ORLEN’s commitment to energy security in Central and Eastern Europe.
“Strengthening our partnership with Naftogaz helps create more opportunities to diversify supplies and improve the resilience of the region’s energy system. We see this as a lasting partnership that serves the interests of both companies.”
The second MoU focuses on potential cooperation between Orlen and Ukrnafta, part of Naftogaz Group, regarding petroleum product supplies to the Ukrainian market, as part of the Polish firm’s efforts to develop its commercial offering and strengthen its position in regional markets.
The companies, which will explore the possibility of supplying Ukrainian crude oil for processing at refineries in Central Europe, may also include the potential transfer of used fuel tanker trucks to Ukrnafta to support the transportation of petroleum products.
Sergii Fedorenko , Acting Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz of Ukraine, emphasized: “Orlen is an important strategic partner for Naftogaz. Amid ongoing Russian attacks on our domestic production facilities, it is particularly important for us to have reliable sources of gas supply and diversified delivery routes.”
Orlen and Naftogaz have been steadily developing their cooperation , including supplies of natural gas sourced from U.S. LNG and broader commercial collaboration in Central and Eastern Europe.
Naftogaz, which obtained LNG capacity at Lithuania’s LNG terminal a few months ago, also joined forces with Argent LNG to assess long-term U.S. LNG offtake, transportation, and distribution cooperation serving Ukraine and Central, Eastern, and Southern European markets.
