The South African Department of Environmental Affairs has ordered a Polar Supply and Research Vessel from STX Finland Oy Rauma shipyard for delivery in the spring of 2012. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 116 million. The ice-strengthened multi-purpose vessel will be operated as a supply vessel, research vessel, icebreaker, expedition vessel and passenger ship.
