The Edge Malaysia reports that an investment of more than RM1.1 billion to upgrade Penang Port “will come to naught” if the port’s north channel is not deepened. So said Penang Port Sdn Bhd’s managing director Datuk Ahmad ibni Hajar recently, noting that the federal government in Malaysia had shelved the RM355 million channel dredging project “indefinitely” and that this could spell “disaster” for the port.
