THE Philippines has already completed and submitted all the requirements prescribed by the European Union (EU) for a new certification scheme that will start on Jan. 1. Francisco Buencamino, executive director of the Tuna Canners Association of the Philippines (TCAP), said the Philippine government is now awaiting the EU’s decision on whether it would include Manila in its list of accredited suppliers of fish products that are compliant with its illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing scheme.
