The first phase of refurbishment and expansion work on the port of Porto Novo is due to begin next May, the chief executive of national ports management company, Enapor, Jorge Pimenta Rodrigues said in Santo Antão.
The project, estimated to cost 24 million euros (2.6 billion Cape Verdean escudos) includes expanding the port to enable it to receive to roll on/roll off ships at the same time as well as two more smaller vessels.
