Yorkshire’s Drax Power station last month loaded the cargo ship ‘Torrent’ with 1,200 tonnes of Pulverised Fuel Ash (PFA). PFA is a by-product from power stations which can be used for a number of purposes such as manufacturing concrete. More shipments of the sort are expected to take place this year. Transporting PFA by water can cut fuel and labour costs with only two men needed to crew a 600-tonne barge.
