A steady stream of heavy truck traffic, each one filled to the brim with goods destined for who knows’ where, flows through the gate to the Port of Belledune, down toward the choppy waters of the Bay of Chaleur.

And while the sight of a small convoy of diesel-fueled vehicles rumbling down Rue Principale in the tiny village of Belledune — population 1,700 — is typically something you’d see in an industrial park in a medium-to-large-sized city, here in this industry heavy, yet still somehow scenic corner of northern New Brunswick, they wouldn’t have it any other way.This is largely due to the fact that, over the past decade, under the guidance of a driven executive and board of directors, the Port of Belledune has gone from being a little port that somehow managed to make it work, to a major force to be reckoned with and potential economic saviour of the north.
