Cargotec has received new conversion contracts from Stena Line for three RoPax vessels fitted with MacGregor cargo access equipment; and has completed a separate RoRo conversion project onboard the 2007-built Stena RoRo vessel, Borja

In February and March Cargotec secured conversion contracts for three Stena Line RoPax vessels: the 39,169gt Stena Germanica, the 39,169gt Stena Scandinavica and the 44,327gt Stena Hollandica. The conversion work will ensure that the vessels are better suited to their new trading routes and will be carried out in three separate stages, starting in June 2010 and finishing at the beginning of 2011.

“These new orders show that our customers appreciate our ability to provide solutions for their vessels not only at the newbuilding stage but also when the vessels are in operation,” says Jonas Nordström, director of RoRo conversion at Cargotec. “We work closely with the customer during the project stage to find ways and equipment to suit each individual vessel, both onboard and at the port interface.”

MacGregor equipment and conversion work for Stena Germanica and Stena Scandinavica includes modifying existing stern ramps, a new liftable bulwark, bow door strength analysis, modifying the existing car deck and car ramp systems, and a new fixed loading platform aft. For Stena Hollandica, conversion work involves the MacGregor bulkhead doors between the tank top deck and main deck and a new passenger door.

In mid-March, Cargotec’s RoRo conversion team completed a conversion project onboard the 25,000gt RoPax Borja for Stena RoRo. A MacGregor bulkhead door was installed between the tank top deck and the main deck and also additional work was done to on the ventilation and bilge water systems and the fire posts. The project started onboard the vessel during a voyage from Barcelona and was finished alongside in the Rotterdam.
