BP Norge AS (BP) has been granted expanded consent for use of the mobile facility Borgland Dolphin on the Skarv field.
The original consent, given in November 2009, includes drilling of 11 production wells and an exploration well in the period from mid-December 2009 to late April 2011. On the basis of the application from BP in April 2010, the consent has now been expanded to include drilling of two production wells on Skarv Idun, as well as the option of drilling four production wells on Tilje. Skarv is located about 35 km southwest of the Norne field in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea. The development is a unitisation of deposits 6507/5-1 Skarv and 6507/3-3 Idun.
The field will be developed with a floating production facility (FPSO). Production is expected to start in 2011.
Borgland Dolphin is a semi-submersible mobile facility of the Aker H3 type, built as a flotel at Bergen Mekaniske Verksted in 1976. In 1999, the facility was modified into a mobile drilling facility at Harlan and Wolff Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Ltd. in Belfast.
