Brunei: Fisheries future to more diverse economy

Brunei has called on the ASEAN states to tackle over-fishing, in an effort to strengthen fisheries and diversify its own economy, at the Meeting of the ASEAN Sectoral Working Group on Fisheries (ASWGFi) on June 25. “Brunei Darussalam is a small regional player in fisheries and aquaculture productions [however] Brunei places the fisheries industry as one of the important sectors that could contribute towards the diversification of the economy,” said Hj Suriyah Hj Omar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources for Brunei.
