The 12th meeting of the Maritime States Development Council (MSDC), which met early last week in Chennai, has deliberated on various measures on prevention and handling of environmental hazards goods close to the port. According to Union minister for shipping GK Vasan, the meeting agreed to issue the guidelines to major ports and state maritime boards to ensure safe and prompt handling of hazardous chemical goods.
