The president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, denied this Wednesday (01/12) afternoon, in Brasília, rumors published by the press that the CEO of Petrobras, José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo, would be substituted by the CEO of BNDES, Luciano Coutinho. Rousseff confirmed Gabrielli will remain at the helm of Petrobras.
“There is no possibility (of such substitution), because Coutinho is very good at what he does, and so is Gabrielli. I sometimes ask myself who stands to gain from news such as this,” said the president.
Petrobras is the largest company in Latin America by market capitalization and revenue, and the largest company headquartered in the Southern Hemisphere by market value. The company was founded in 1953.
Petrobras has upwards of 100 production platforms, 16 refineries, 30,000 kilometers of pipelines and more than 6,000 service stations. Petrobras’ proved reserves are around 14 billion barrels of oil, a figure expected to double in the next few years. With the discovery of oil and gas in the pre-salt region, Brazil may become the world’s fourth biggest oil producer in 2030.
