JC Carter to Design and Manufacture 22 Pumps for Singapore LNG Terminal

JC Carter LLC, the international pioneer and technology-leading designer and manufacturer of cryogenic submerged motor pumps (SMP), today announced receiving the completed purchase order for 22 third generation pumps for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Jurong Island, Singapore.

Singapore LNG Corporation Pte. Ltd. (SLNG) and its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner Samsung C&T Corporation (Samsung) are in the process of building three LNG storage tanks on the Island. The facility is Singapore’s first LNG plant and terminal, and is expected to not only give Singapore greater flexibility to meet its future gas needs, but also the ability to pursue new business opportunities in the LNG market.

The pump order is based on the three storage tanks that are now under construction on Jurong Island, and consist of three in-tank send-out pumps per tank, two reloading pumps per tank, six total high pressure (HP) booster pumps and one LNG drain pump.

According to the design, the in-tank pumps will supply LNG to the high pressure pumps, which send out the LNG at high pressure to the vaporizers, which gasify the LNG and deliver it through pipelines to Singapore’s natural gas customers. The reloading pumps reload the cargo ships to export LNG to other countries, and the LNG drain pump is used periodically for maintenance to empty the tanks.

“JC Carter’s third generation technology delivers the highest efficiencies ever recorded in our industry,” said Dennis Chalmers, Vice President of Engineering and Technology at JC Carter. “The pumps we are designing today, and which will be installed at Jurong Island, are custom built based on their specific application and feature low NPSH characteristics allowing for more efficient use of the tank. Our team of engineers are designing and building high-precision, high-tolerance, energy-efficient pumps to make Singapore’s LNG terminal more productive and able to meet the energy needs of the future.”
