Shell Australia has today announced it has reached a commercial agreement with Woodside for the redevelopment of the fuel supply facilities at King Bay Supply Base, near Dampier.
The redevelopment will enable Shell to continue to be Woodside’s supplier of bulk fuels and more efficiently service other customers.
Works commenced in early 2011 and include the reinstatement of the King Bay Supply Base import pipeline, a road gantry for truck loading and additional tankage.
Shell’s general manager of marketing Craig James said the facility was important for the storage of diesel to support shipping and local export industries in this booming region.
Craig said Western Australia was a key growth market for Shell’s Australian business and this enhanced facility would improve supply to customers in the Dampier area, especially a growing number of shipping customers.
“This investment is part of a much larger capital program to support Shell’s aggressive plans to grow its fuels business,” he said.
“Shell is uniquely placed to understand the challenges in northern WA as a business that is heavily involved in LNG production, shipping activity and also road transport.
“Our major focus is to work together with resource customers to meet their energy needs.
“Northern WA is one of the largest export regions in Australia, and because of this demand for marine fuel is booming.
“This investment will assist Shell to meet increased demand.”
Shell has operated in Australia for 110 years, and has Western Australian terminals in Broome, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Leonora and North Fremantle. The company also supplies aviation fuel, bitumen, and lubricants in WA and supplies fuel to 98 Shell branded service stations across the state.
