Damen Shipyards Galati hosted on 21-st of April 2011 the launching ceremony of patrol ship “GRONINGEN”. The vessel is the second of this type built in Damen shipyard and the forth from a series of vessels made for the Dutch Royal Navy.
Equipped with advanced integrated automation, alarm and monitoring systems and dynamic position system for precise auto positioning control, the vessel represents a state-of-the-art achievement, being very maneuverable and reliable to the purposes she was built for.
Same as her sister, “FRIESLAND”, “GRONINGEN”’s launching was honored by the presence of important guests: the Lady Sponsor, Mrs. Melanie Schultz van Haegen – Minister of Infrastructure and Environment from The Netherlands and her counterpart, Mrs. Anca Boagiu – Minister of Transports and Infrastructure from our country. On this occasion, a protocol of cooperation between Rotterdam and Constanta harbors was signed, both ministers emphasizing the importance of developing and improving the cooperation between our countries in the field of transports and infrastructure.
Apart from the two ministers, the ceremony was attended by representatives of the Dutch Royal Navy led by vice-admiral Matthieu Borsboom and general major Mel de Zeeuw but also from the Romanian Navy represented by vice-admiral Aurel Popa and general Catalin Moraru.
An important presence was also Mrs. Tanya van Gool – Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania, one of the major supporters of our shipyard, who steadily promotes the potential Romanian – Dutch partnerships.
