The U.S. Navy extended a deadline for bids from potential contractors on the overhaul and modification of the 643-foot USS Frank Cable, a Guam-based submarine tender vessel, according to a solicitation notice.
Contractors aiming to carry out the dry-dock maintenance and overhaul now have until June 10 to make an offer, instead of the original deadline of June 3, according to an amendment to the Military Sealift Command solicitation number N00033-11-R-7501.
Work is scheduled to start around Feb. 15 of 2012 and take approximately 120 days, according to the notice. Modifications needed to the USS Frank Cable, which supplies and supports submarines, are “ to better equip the vessel for MSC’s reduced manning profile ,” the MSC said. “ Several new systems are being installed to allow for MSC operation .”
