Recently, Wagenborg Towage transported the first section of a cruise-ship to be build at the Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The tugboats Waterstraat and Watergeus left their home-port of Delfzijl, sailed through the Kieler canal, on their way to Rostock, Northern Germany. In Rostock, the tow was prepared after which the journey to Papenburg continued.
After arrival in Kiel, two runners from Wagenborg stepped on board to accompany the tow during its journey to Papenburg. Since the section was too wide to pass the moveable part of the Friesenbrücke (railway bridge) across the river Eems, close to Weener, Triton, Wagenborg’s floating heavy lift crane, together with the tugboat Gyas was used to temporarily lift out the heavy part of the bridge, weighing 200 tons.
