Shell today welcomes the announcement of the awarding of the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract associated with the Arrow LNG Project in Queensland, Australia.
Arrow Energy, jointly owned by PetroChina and Royal Dutch Shell, will use Shell’s proprietary LNG technology.
The engineering design will be undertaken by an international consortium comprising the Chiyoda Corporation, CB&I (Chicago Bride and Iron) and Saipem.
Ann Pickard, Country Chair of Shell in Australia said: “ This is an important milestone for the project. As we head to the first anniversary of our joint acquisition of Arrow Energy with PetroChina, Shell is pleased with the progress being made on the Arrow CBM to LNG project .
The Arrow LNG plant will be designed with two trains each producing four million tonnes of LNG per annum for export, with potential to expand the facility at a later stage.
Ann Pickard continued: “ Australia is an important growth area for Shell, and this activity in Queensland complements our considerable LNG interests in Western Australia, where we also recently took the final investment decision on what we believe will be the world’s first Floating LNG development, planned for our Prelude field off the north west coast .”
Shell is set to become one of Australia’s largest investors with plans to spend $30 billion over the next five years helping to meet the world’s growing energy demand.
